A 14-year-old youth was discovered deceased just days after being falsely accused of stealing the cremated remains of a dead baby during a burglary, an inquest has learned.

Tragic Discovery

Kai Lloyd's mother and father found his body in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay residence on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Allegations Start

The inquest heard how his mother got a message on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a woman inquiring if her son was her child. The communication stated: "Inform him appreciation for breaking into my apartment."

In a statement presented to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, asserting her baby's remains had been taken in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.

Police Inquiry

An investigation report from authorities later concluded the alleged burglary complainant had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that said items was never taken in the first place".

Media reports about the supposed taken ashes generated online comments, and although Kai was not named in the posts, his mother said people "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely distressing", she said.

Emotional Wellbeing Impact

She explained that her son had been identified with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' views genuinely were important to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

The teenager was arrested at his residence, but no evidence was found. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in touch, the inquest heard, but had failed to contacted the family by the moment of his passing.

Isolation and Worry

His parent said her son "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".

When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her child told her he had entered the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he wanted, but denied taking anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being harassed online after the accusations.

The proceedings heard that a young adult urged the teenager to end his life.

She had no worries on the evening before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".

He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she said, adding that he could not stand to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".

School Response

The inquest received testimony from educational personnel at the local secondary school.

On November 8th, she "heard some boys discussing that Kai had been detained and that was the first I heard".

"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang Kai's parents' telephone and provided a message saying she had spoken to Kai about the allegations.

The court heard his parents said they did not receive that communication.

Formal Conclusion

Senior coroner told the hearing he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with individuals with the condition, before determining whether he should make a prevention of future deaths report.

Providing a descriptive conclusion, he said: "Around 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a young child.

"Probably falsehoods were afterwards exaggerated and amplified through the medium of social media.

"During November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and following his interview he was freed whilst investigations continued."

The official determined: "Exists no proof that the acts or failures of any agency led to or added to his passing and although it was the result of a self-inflicted action it is not possible to discern his intent."
